Revelation

The book of Revelation was written by the Apostle John from the island of Patmos off the coast of Turkey (Asia Minor) in the Aegean sea in the AD 90s (A.D. 95 or 96 to be more precise). John was placed there as a prisoner by the Roman government, not because he'd done anything wrong, but because those who preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ were being persecuted for their faith at that time and place (See Revelation 1:9). This vision or book of the Revelation was addressed to the seven churches (major or notable churches) in Asia Minor (See Rev. 1:4). The churches are listed in a circular order beginning with Ephesus (See Rev. 1:11. The same pattern is followed in chapters 2 and 3 as well). (The geographic location of those churches when followed in order of their listing is circular). It is likely that when this letter was taken and circulated among those churches, that it was delivered in that order, around the circular course (although we cannot prove that for certain). John had spent most of his life doing ministry in Asia Minor and it was from Ephesus (the first church mentioned) that he wrote his other letters and spent a lot of time living and doing ministry. The book of Revelation became very well-known and accepted at an earlier age because it was widely circulated to all the major churches in Asia Minor and then onward to other churches throughout the Roman Empire. God intended that all His people and “whoever has an ear” should hear and understand this letter (See Rev. 1:1,3; 2:7).
